Winter Heating Payment

Social Security Scotland is an executive agency of the Scottish Government. We help the people of Scotland by delivering a range of social security payments.

One of the benefits we deliver is the Winter Heating Payment which is a yearly payment that helps people on low income benefits who might have extra heating needs during the winter. 

You do not need to apply. You will get Winter Heating Payment automatically as a single payment between December and February if you get one of the benefits that make you eligible (see website for details). This does not depend on how cold it is. You'll get a letter or an email from Social Security Scotland telling you it's coming.
